Alexandria, (population of 3.5 to 5 million), is the second largest city in Egypt, and its largest seaport. Alexandria extends about 20 miles (32 km) up and down the Mediterranean sea in northwest Egypt.
The Greek Alexandria was divided into three regions:Brucheum, the Royal or Greek quarter, forming the most magnificent portion of the city. In Roman times Brucheum was enlarged by the addition of an official quarter, making up four regions in all.
