Machico Information

Machico is a city located in the northeastern part of the Madeira Islands. The town was founded in 1451. Machico is the easternmost municipality on the island by a cape.

It is located 17 km NE of Funchal, NW of the Savage Islands, 20 km SE of Santana and WSW of Porto Santo. Machico includes the parish of Ribeira Seca which the area is mainly dry. From the historic point of view this is probably the most interesting town on the island as Machico was the landing point of the discoverers of Madeira.

Its Porto da Cruz parish is famous for its vine cultivation and every year there is a celebration called ‘Vintage Party’.
