Montijo Information

Montijo is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 348.0 km² and a total population of 40,199 inhabitants.The municipality is composed of 8 parishes, and is located in the district of Setúbal.

The county of Montijo may be roughly divided into two separate parts, quite different from each other: the estuary zone (also known as Outra Banda, «Other Shore»), densely populated and linked to the Tagus river and Lisbon, and the Moorland, away from the coast and of a much more rural character.

In terms of gastronomy, visitors will find at the county's restaurants and small taverns varied and sometimes strange specialities, such as braised spare ribs and couratos (hog's skin), torresmos (rind of roast pork).
